When they call your name, will you walk right up? [Jan. 19th, 2006|06:27 pm]
[Current Mood | cheerful]
[Current Music |"It'll All Work Out" by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers (Elizabethtown Soundtrack)]

It's nice to be back in Ithaca...

I've been setting up a pretty good routine for the semester, and so far it is really keeping me focused. Get up, go to the gym, practice for a couple of hours, take a break for lunch; practice a couple more hours, do whatever else I need to do. Arranged around class and such. Wednesdays will be crazy starting next week, when I start that Baroque seminar at Cornell - it's 1:30-4:30, then back to IC for the post tonal analysis class from 6-7:40. Other than that though, I think I should be able to do really well with this routine. My practicing has been really well focused; taking a short break from long practice hours really helped. Plus I think I'm playing for myself more now, comparing myself to where I was and where I want to be as opposed to caring what other people think of how I play. I really don't care. Except what Kelly and Dr. Mehne think. I'm a lot happier, and my tone has opened up I think as a result of that. So it's good.

Other good news....Kelly is having a baby! Yaaay! It makes things a little complicated concerning my lecture recital next semester, but I don't care. I'll get to have some lessons with her one way or another, and I think it will be good to work with someone else too. I really like her, though. My recital was such a major concern to her - she barely gave me time to congratulate her before she started telling me some of the solutions she thought of! She's so great. She also is helping me to find an arts admin internship HERE this summer (and maybe this semester too) which would be great because I wouldn't lose money on my apartment. Plus it will just be less hassle. Removing to New Jersey or Cooperstown for the summer would be OK but I'd rather stay here if I can.

SPEAKING of apartments, Lauren and I looked at our first one today! It was all right but a little small and cramped - especially the kitchen. We're looking at some other properties next week. It's very exciting! I'm going to be saving a lot on gas money....not to mention rent. Plus I'll have an awesome roommate. The one I have now is kind of boring sometimes :-P

Ok...dinner time!

What a great night...I mean really, it is good to be back. Tess and I went out to Moonshadows, and it was great to catch up with her. Then we ran into Jake and hung out with him, too, until now...ish. It was just awesome. I have great friends...I know I've said the word "great" a lot but it's late so I think it's ok. I'm glad to be here.

I went to bed at 2, but I can't sleep anymore so I'll be leaving within the next half hour. Three 1/2 hours of sleep? Maybe not great fuel for such a long drive, but there IS caffeine along the way!

Giving you someone to talk to.... [Dec. 10th, 2005|08:30 pm]
[Current Music |"Going Under" by Evanescence]

So, the dinner went really well the other night. It was fun, and I didn't mess it up. It's awesome to have great people to hang out with.

Last night Tess, Mel, Mary and I went over to Emilie and Tom's. It was also fun, we watched movies, ate pizza and laughed a lot. Also great people to hang out with. They have a very strange cat. Cute, but strange.

Tess and I worked on the last bibliography scavenger hunt assignment (thing where we get a list of questions and have to find the answers based on the sources we learned how to use). We finished it, and it only took a couple of hours. I still have tons of work to do but that makes me feel a lot better. Just have to type it up and BIB is FINISHED! I also practiced today AND went to the gym! Then Tess and I did some Christmas shopping, too. Productive!

I don't really know what else to say. I have lots of work to do. Lauren and I are going to Syracuse tomorrow for more shopping....then I have to practice, type the scavenger hunt and finish up my independent study. Monday will be almost entirely devoted to IPWA and practicing for my jury, which is Tuesday.

Isn't my life fascinating? Almost time to go home!

Just posted a photo album on facebook. That's a nifty thing. I don't feel like posting pics here, especially since some of them are kind of old, but they're cool so if you wanna see Check it out here

The rest of you in powder blue... [Dec. 3rd, 2005|12:17 am]

[Current Music |"St Patricks Day" by John Mayer]

Tonight was funnn, I went to Lauren's, where we ate Chinese food, had some margaritas, bitched about various aspects of life, and watched tons of Sex and the City. It was fabulous.

The best part (but not really) was when I went to leave and my car wouldn't unlock. Yes, those automatic locks have made it through sub zero winters in Maine and New Hampshire, but apparently some weird lake effect thing (that's a popular term here) in the air or some other strange combination of circumstances in Ithaca on DECEMBER 2ND caused my locks to dig in their heels and refuse to allow me entrance to my car. The remote wouldn't work, and neither would the key, on either side.

So, I popped the back hatch open and crawled through the back. It's not the easiest thing to do in my car, especially considering the amount of junk lying around in the back. I really need to clean it out. Anyway, once I was in the front, I still couldn't open the door. I turned the car on to try and warm it up, because there really isn't any good way to shut the glass part of the back hatch from the inside so I HAD to get out to close it before I started driving. Besides the fact that I would like to make sure that my doors will open again someday. I had to fight with the lock and the handle to get it open, but I finally pushed my shoulder against the door forcefully enough to open it.

Yeesh. Crazy. I had fun tonight though. It was nice to relax a little since I've been drowning in my independent study most of the week. I think it's coming along well, though.

And that's all I have to say!

Break was nice. Home is great! The holiday was really peaceful, went shopping on Friday (craziness!) and went to see Harry Potter which was the best one yet though it didn't compare to the books, of course. But that's a given. Read David Copperfield, which is one of my absolute favorite books. I think I'll have more to say about that later, it's so great. Timeless, in many ways.

Got to go to the city yesterday with Susan which was awesome, though it only made me want to stay. Didn't get to spend enough time there but I'm hoping to be back before too long, some way or another.

The ride back with Lauren was fun too even though we ran into traffic in a couple of places. She's awesome! Plus it was sooo much better than being stuck on a bus with no one to talk to! I just finished doing pilates, now I'm trying to organize all the work I have to do. Well NOW I'm updating my LJ but I am also organizing my work. Lots to do. I'll be in the library for a while tomorrow. Not to mention the practice room. But I'll start with the gym :-)

Well...I'm back in Ithaca. Three weeks.

BORING entry. Sorry about that. I'll try to do something interesting soon to entertain my adoring fans.

How does it feel to be so high? [Nov. 20th, 2005|03:30 pm]
[Current Mood | peaceful]
[Current Music |"Carnival Town" by Norah Jones]

I expected to post a lot this weekend, and I actually was trying to write a great entry yesterday but my computer hates me and it kept crashing. It doesn't matter that much, anyway, my words kept drying up. I don't know how else to say it except they just weren't coming out. I have high expectations for my public posts.

Went to see "Walk the Line" last night with Emilie, Thomas and Amy. It was a great movie.

I'm going to Syracuse tonight, and I get to go home tomorrow. I used to hate flying, but this time I'm actually looking forward to it. I've lived next to the airport for a few months now and I see planes all the time (besides the fact that I'm used to flying after all those auditions last semester). They represent a certain freedom to me now, as well as determination, in a way; things can't be all that bad if I drive by an airport every day and haven't yet decided to get on one of those planes and not come back. I'm used to the way my body reacts to the stress of flying; I get so nervous before, but the moment the wheels start to turn toward that takeoff, the butterflies go away, and I just love it. That first moment that lifts you off the ground is so graceful. I don't know how such a huge, steel thing can be so graceful, but that's all it is. I know all the movements of the planes now, all the sounds and sensations, and it's comfortable. And everything gets smaller below you, until it's all left behind and you're on to a new adventure. Even home is a new adventure, when you've been missing it so much. But it's a bittersweet thing, too, because there's always something to leave behind that you don't want to leave behind, even here. Even if it's a faint echo of something. Driving away is one thing; you can turn around and come back, if you need to. When you fly away, there's always that weird feeling that you may never be back again, even if you know that in one week you'll be right where you started.

In depth for something public. Can't wait to go home.

Another public post? Already? [Nov. 13th, 2005|11:41 pm]
[Current Music |"Comfortable" by John Mayer - Musicmatch Jukebox]

I really enjoyed Craig's recital today....the lecture part was interesting to me, and I thought the pieces were great, especially the second one. I heard them at his dress rehearsal yesterday too, and I thought it was cool to hear them again. Ummm let's see I got a lot of work done today since I got nothing accomplished yesterday besides rehearsal with Jake and Emilie. Jake and I went to the library afterwards to look up stuff about the piece but it was too nice outside to stay there so we left and did nothing instead. Uneventful, but still fun. Their place is so awesome....you go out on the porch and it's just hills all around, the kind of view someone in NH would pay good money for in a hotel room. I'm usually out there at night, which is also cool because you can see all the lights out in the hills, but yesterday I got to see some of the sunset from there. We sat outside for a while.

What else... went out for Emilie's birthday. Moonshadows was packkked full, and it was very uncomfortable. Literally could not move. Insanity.

Mmm...this song is sad. Going to the gym tomorrow, yay....lots to do. It was weird to take a day off yesterday from doing work. Good though, and I was able to sleep last night for the first time in a while so maybe there's something to be said for just chilling out once in a while.

I warned you people that my public posts would be boring. Not too much going on....that's why. Thanksgiving break is soooon!

Public Post [Nov. 11th, 2005|11:32 am]
[Current Mood | mischievous]
[Current Music |"Can't Stop Now" by Keane]

So I think I'm fairly ashamed of my livejournal updating. I didn't used to post a lot, and now I post way too much. That wouldn't be apparent to anyone who's not on my friends list, because most of my posts are friends only. But I'm going public with this information: I am addicted to LJ. I think it's ok, though. I'm a writer at heart. A lot of famous novelists had journals. I have my own private journal, of course, but this is the perfect place for my future biographer to find primary source information. I'm sure one of my oh-so-trusted friends in the "friends only" group will sell out and go public with the scandalous secrets I write in there, but it's ok. I probably would, too. (I hope you know me well enough to recognize the facetious tone with which I write that). There's no such thing as bad publicity, after all.

See, I'm already publicizing my un-published works.

Generally, things are going well in Ithaca. I've been getting a lot done this week despite my lack of sleep. I'll try to do more public posts, but unless I have something fairly spectacular to say, I may not update much. You don't want to read about my laundry and how many hours I spent in the practice room. Of course, if you're dying for those kinds of details, start a livejournal and I might put you on my friends list.

Off to do lots of important things....

The NYPhil played live from Lincoln Center tonight. I watched it on PBS. The pianist was so amazing I wanted to cry.

Lately I've just been reminded of how much I love doing this music thing.

Got an email from Lotti. It made me happy.

Now I'm going to bed. Excuse the disjointed entries. I'm happy and focused at the moment. That makes me concise.

I'm in love with the Reinecke concerto. It's amazing and wonderful and I love it. I want to be good at it.

Even though I'm not good at it yet, it makes me feel free.

I want to practice forever and ever!

[Current Music |"St Patricks Day" by John Mayer]

Had a good day today.

I didn't have to go to work because there was some mixup or something with the schedule and they felt bad for me. I went to the park to hear the IC Wind Ensemble play. I really enjoyed it a lot. It was a beautiful day and the music was great. It was quite an eclectic program musically but it had a "celestial" theme. They play in tune. It was good.

Did some work. Practiced. Called work, they said I didn't have to come in, and on top of that, I am now in charge of the back room. I won't have to be out on the floor as much, I'll get to organize the back room and process the shipment. It means more hours, but on a set schedule, which is good. It's a semi-promotion, ish. I'm excited because it will give me an outlet for my perfectionism. That back room has been driving me nuts for weeks and now I can FIX it!

Why am I compulsive about cleaning up at work but my apartment is like clutter central? And my car. Heh.

So I did work tonight and watched too much Sex and the City. Now it's time for bed so I can get up early!

My ceiling caved in this morning. In the bathroom. That is not a fun way to wake up, hearing that sound.

So far, they have had to replace the carpets because the lady before me had a dog she kept cooped up all day, and you know what happens then. So that was pretty major and now this. It's alllways me...

It is kind of funny in a way, though. Becca and Ryan came over to help me clean it up. Ryan even called maintenence for me. That was really nice of them. They are cool people.

Great start to the weekend...

I probably have a job!! Yay! At New York and Company. They are hiring for the back to school/holiday season. I hope I can either a) find another job before January or b) impress them so much that they want to keep me. Sarah is right I will probably spend all my money there. But hopefully not. I really do need some cash at the moment. So they are checking my references, which might be hard to do on a Friday afternoon, and then I probably get to go in on Sunday for paperwork and training. I'm very excited about this. It's a very good thing.

And very soon I am going to Syracuse with Becca so that should be fun! And I'll update about that later!

I also want to say CONGRATS to Sarah and Dan!! Wish I could be there!! Have a great and wonderful day and I will be thinking of you!

whoa! [Jul. 30th, 2005|03:37 pm]
[Current Mood | excited]

Steph and I had an eventful day!

First, we were coming out of Kohl's and some guys about our age (and not sketchy looking) were like "Hey, will you sign my book?" We were like uhhh that's a new tactic...never heard that one before! But then they got out this book and it had tons of random quotes and stuff written in it. They were like "You don't have to write your name or anything just a phrase" so I wrote "Bronson should bring back the corn rows! Red Sox '05!" We asked if it was for a project and he said it was like a sort of time capsule. Maybe they're soc or psych majors. Hehe it was really funny.

Then we went to the mall, and there was a huuuge line outside the sports store, so we peeked in and guess who it was?! David Ortiz!! We saw him in there (it's hard to miss him, he's really a big dude) and we were so excited! But it was 100 bucks for a ticket to get in and 50 extra if you wanted to buy a baseball for him to sign. They said he could sign something else but yikes! $100 is a lot of cash and I am going back to school. Plus I needed jeans, which was why we were at the mall. But we still got to see him!! It was awesome. We saw Papi! Woohoo.

Overall it was quite eventful! Plus shopping is fun.
